Interdaptor®

The integration of diverse distributed systems into integrated synthetic environments has become a major area of interest for the DoD. Technologies in the Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) domains are being joined to leverage unique capabilities and create synergies among these disparate technologies. The key to success in this endeavor is providing interoperability between these varied systems.

Interdaptor® is a versatile interoperability software toolkit that enables dissimilar architecture communications. Its capabilities are being applied across the LVC domains to support some of the most critical development programs in the DoD by providing cross-protocol and dissimilar architecture communications including:

  • Distributed simulation federation bridges and gateways
  • Live instrumented training range interfaces
  • Command and control systems interfaces.
Interdaptor® solves interoperability challenges today while offering the flexibility to meet tomorrow's needs.

Benefits

  • Customizable solution yields true interoperability between different distributed system protocols.
  • Cost-effective commercial technology enables High-Level Architecture (HLA) compliance.
  • Flexible cross-protocol capabilities provide effective legacy systems integration.

Features

  • Incorporates an easy-to-use graphical mapping tool user interface that make Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)-to-HLA and HLA-to-HLA bridging fast and efficient.
  • Federation Object Model (FOM) Agility - An easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI) is provided that enables mapping of data representations to one another, and automatically generates the source code needed to provide interoperability solutions. Mapping to any FOM is simplified so that federation changes, interface with multiple federations, or different Runtime Infrastructures (RTIs) may be managed without code modification.
  • Comprehensive Interoperability Solution - Interdaptor® includes the following core data mediation technology:
  • Gateway - Provides a non-intrusive link between legacy systems and HLA or DIS, as well as DIS-to-HLA interoperability.
  • Bridge - Provides interoperability between separate federations using the same or different FOMs.
  • Middleware - Provides a tightly integrated solution to interoperability without the need for additional hardware.
  • Customized Interfaces - Allows interoperability for legacy systems using customized adaptable interfaces or standard shared memory interfaces (such as SCRAMNet).
  • Live System Interfaces - Allows interoperability between live systems such as Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems and simulations to enable integration of live and virtual assets or to achieve enterprise application integration.
  • RTI Compatibility - All compliant RTIs and all HLA services are supported. Data marshalling to support multiple data encoding schemes; time management to provide interoperability of federates with different time management schemes; declaration and Data Distribution Management (DDM) for data filtering and routing; and predictive contracts for dead-reckoning, heartbeats and multi-resolution FOMs.
  • Legacy Systems Integration - Interdaptor® provides adaptable interfaces to integrate stand-alone or legacy systems with new, live, or distributed simulation systems. Interdaptor® leverages the investment made in legacy systems and models, enabling much broader reuse. Simply perform the mapping from the legacy system Simulator Object Model (SOM) to the desired FOM with the easy-to-use Mapping Tool GUI, and Interdaptor® assists the users in generating the needed data conversions to support all interfacing requirements. Alternatively, Interdaptor® allows you to import conversions for specialized applications and provides support for all HLA services. So legacy system interoperability is easily achieved, often without the need to change the legacy source code.
